In a poll by Med Ad News (Feb 2010) it was found that individuals 65 years old and older who use medications:

  • 51% take at least five different prescription drugs regularly
  • One in four take between 10 and 19 pills each day
  • 57% of those polled admit that they forget to take their medications
  • Among those using four or less medications, 51% say they forget doses
  • Among those using five or more medications, 63% say they forget doses

  • 30 minutes after taking their medications, some seniors can’t remember if they took them, and often take them again

  • 60% of seniors were not sure what time of day to take their medications
  • 40% of elderly patients do not know the purpose of their medications
    Other issue are:
  • Some do not take their prescribed medications because they DON'T feel good
  • Some do not take their prescribed medications because they DO feel good
